Initial Idea
The discrimination on the basis
of gender has been a subject I have been following closely for some time now.
My interest piqued when I started educating myself on the situation of the
Afghani women and their treatment in the afghan society. In this work I am
highlighting various aspects of Afghan life, such as their punishment system,
education, psychological and mental problems.
So for this work I have working on different
series of pictures, First series of picture shows one of the cruel aspect of
the one of the most neglected community of the world in which stoning to death
is still in practice. For some very minor crimes which are otherwise considered
very grave in this community and are openly punished by this way. At the same time
no public awareness for this matter has been arisen.
In the second series of pictures, the images
give very gloom outlook of children fear and psychology effects of War Torren
Afghanistan. They seem quite uncertain about their future. It would take quite
time to restore the infrastructure of the country. Everyone is uncertain about
complete peace and calm of this part of the country. Their fear and gloominess
will not get normal until peace is not prevailed their.
In third series of pictures I will show the
poor situation of education in Afghanistan specially of women. Because women
education suffer most, their future seems quite blight. Moreover populace of
this are has not interest towards this issue. It is therefore no opinion for
this issue arise in this country.
Research
The area I belongs to is the verge of Punjab
and KPK and there also lays Afghan Refuge camp where I happens to visit
oftenly. And I have intimation with many Afghan people. Hence I learn much
about their culture and customs. So all these ideas have been culled from
personal contact with people of this area and self watch events. And I've also
watched different documentaries on YouTube made by different media groups and
also studied different articles about this topic.
These are the links
of documentaries and videos I've watched:
This picture is of, An Afghan woman who’s family members
were killed in Herat Province in August 2008. Fraidoon Pooyaa
Afghan Rights Group Investigating Video Of Woman Being Stoned To Death
A grab from the video footage showing the stoning to
death punishment, which is alleged to have taken place in Afghanistan
Afghanistan’s
Independent Human Rights Commission "AIHRC" says it is investigating video
footage that shows an Afghan woman being stoned to death.
The two-minute clip shows a group of men throwing rocks at a covered woman who
is lying in a hole that has been dug in the ground. A crowd of onlookers can be
heard shouting “Hit her!” "Hit her!"
The woman's cries and screams can be heard.
And then visualising the impact of 20 years of war
Here's what
20 years of war has done to the Afghan people. As the US withdraws its troops, I look at the latest figures on human suffering
The human cost of war
An estimated 241,000 people have died as a direct result of the war
since the US invaded Afghanistan to topple the Taliban in the wake of the
September 11, 2001 attacks in the US, according to the most recent figures from
Brown University’s c. Hundreds of thousands
more, mostly civilians, have died due to hunger, disease and injury caused by
the devastating war.
Of the people killed, 71,344 were civilians who died on both sides of Afghanistan’s
long, porous border with Pakistan. At least 47,245 civilians have died in
Afghanistan and 24,099 in Pakistan.
Afghanistan shares a 2,670km (1,659-mile) largely mountainous border
with Pakistan that has seen frequent cross-border clashes and US drone attacks.
Contextual understanding
These are very related and discussing issues for use due to neighboring countries. These topics further enhance my knowledge towards these issues, my previous work also related to this genre.
I would communicate through pictures with their explanations and audience will feel no pain to understand my purpose that is to visualize different aspects of Afghan society.
